Resumen en inglés
Kaminaljuyú covered an area of approximately 5km2 and consisted of 227 mounds. This city played a fundamental role as a civic-administrative center in the maya highlands during the pre-Hispanic period. Despite its historical significance, the ancient structures were destroyed as a consequence of the urban growth of Guatemala City. Currently, 40 mounds have been preserved, most of them located on private properties in zones 7 and 11 of the city. However, nine of them remain protected within the Parque Arqueológico Kaminaljuyú, located in zone 7, the area on which this study focuses. This study investigated the archaeological information of mounds C-II-3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13 and 14, as well as the acropolis and structure E of la palangana, which correspond to the points of interest. Subsequently, a summary of the findings, chronology and function of the mounds and exposed structures, this information will form part of the informative content of the AR Tour Kaminaljuyú application. In addition, the dimensions of a construction phase of the mounds C-II-3, 7, 12, 13 and 14, as well as structure E of la palangana, were provided to the application developers for the creation of augmented reality models. In this way, users of the digital application will be able to access accurate archaeological information about the mounds and exposed structures located in the park. Furthermore, for the second version of the application, it is recommended to include additional information and provide dimensions for the development of a greater number of augmented reality models of structures and construction phases.
