Abstract:
El Polol Vuh, épica narrativa de los Quichés es considerado por muchos el “libro nacional de Guatemala” Escrito en el idioma Quiché en el siglo XVI, sobrevive gracias a dos copias realizadas, a principios de siglo XVIII en Chichicastenango, por el Fraile Dominico Fransico Ximénez (Estrada Monrroy, 1973: Ximéndez, 1977). Este documento es la más completa historia de la creación del mundo y los humanos según las creencias mayas prehistóricas. También incluye detalles de eventos históricos de los quichés y otros grupos étnicos del altiplano antes de la invasión española y del establecimiento de un gobierno colonial comandado por Pedro de Alvarado.
