This study examines the perturbative nature of quantum electrodynamics (QED) through the problem of the muon anomalous magnetic moment. A fundamental theoretical development of the Klein–Gordon and Dirac equations, which are essential for the study of the muon anomalous magnetic moment, is presented. The current state of the literature regarding the value of the muon's gyromagnetic ratio is reviewed from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. The existing discrepancy between the experimental measurements and theoretical predictions is highlighted. A study of perturbation theory as applied to quantum field theory, with particular emphasis on quantum electrodynamics, is presented. Explicit low-order calculations of the muon anomalous magnetic moment in QED are carried out using perturbation theory as the primary analytical tool. The perturbative series used to determine the value of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is formulated, and a convergence test for this series is proposed using numerical methods. The limitations of these numerical methods are evaluated by predicting the number of Feynman diagrams appearing at higher orders of the perturbative expansion. The study concludes that the perturbative series is convergent and, consequently, that quantum electrodynamics is a perturbative theory. Finally, recommendations are provided regarding the numerical method employed.
