| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | The study focused on isolating and characterizing bacteria from biofertilizers produced by artisanal fermenters to evaluate their microbial composition and their potential to promote plant growth. Samples from San Marcos, San Juan Comalapa and San Pedro Sacatepéquez were analyzed for pH, bacterial concentration and diversity. Bacterial counts ranged between 106 and 1010CFU/mL, meeting the recommended threshold for effective biofertilizers. However, low microbial diversity was observed, as most samples contained only one or two bacterial strains, probably due to competitive interactions and antagonism between microorganisms. Biochemical and molecular characterization identified Bacillus and Pseudomonas as dominant genera, known for their phosphate solubilization and phytohormone production. Key isolates included Bacillus siamensis, B. pumilus and B. altitudinis, which demonstrated important growth-promoting traits. Differences in bacterial composition were attributed to the pH and soil type of the regions. Acidic pH (3.4-5.3) limited microbial diversity, favoring acid-tolerant species. Despite this, the isolated strains showed remarkable metabolic traits, forming a collection of cultures with potential for agricultural applications. This research shows the need to optimize fermentation conditions to increase microbial diversity and biofertilizer efficacy, offering valuable insights for sustainable agriculture and improved soil health. | eng |
