Set de juguetes terapéuticos adaptados para niños de 1 a 5 años con problemas neurológicos, enfocados en la motricidad fina, realizado en el Hospital Materno Infantil Juan Pablo II de Guatemala

Abstract

El presente trabajo de protocolo tiene como objetivo diseñar y fabricar un set de juguetes terapéuticos adaptados para niños de 1 a 5 años con trastornos neurológicos, enfocados en el fortalecimiento de la motricidad fina. Este proyecto plantea una propuesta que integra diseño, salud y accesibilidad, mediante la creación de herramientas adaptadas, seguras y estimulantes. A través de esta intervención, se espera no solo mejorar la calidad de las terapias físicas en hospitales infantiles, sino también destacar el potencial del diseño como una herramienta efectiva para contribuir al bienestar y desarrollo de la comunidad. La metodología de este proyecto se divide en cuatro fases. En la primera fase se realizará una investigación con el apoyo de una fisioterapeuta especializada, con el objetivo de identificar las principales necesidades que tienen los niños en el desarrollo de su motricidad fina. Esta etapa también incluirá la revisión de información y estudios relacionados con diseño inclusivo, el tamaño del cuerpo infantil (antropometría) y las terapias ocupacionales que se usan en estos casos. En la segunda fase se trabajará en el diseño del set de juguetes. Se harán bocetos, modelos en 3D, planos y prototipos que permitan visualizar cómo serán los juguetes, tomando en cuenta aspectos como la seguridad, la comodidad para el niño y su utilidad dentro de la terapia. La tercera fase estará enfocada en cómo fabricar los juguetes. Se elegirán técnicas sencillas y materiales seguros, buscando que los juguetes puedan usarse fácilmente en hospitales o centros de salud por parte del personal terapéutico. Finalmente, en la cuarta fase se harán pruebas piloto con niños en sesiones de terapia reales, bajo la supervisión de la fisioterapeuta colaboradora. Esto servirá para observar cómo reaccionan los niños ante los juguetes, evaluar su efectividad en el desarrollo de la motricidad fina y hacer los ajustes necesarios antes de proponer su uso final. Se espera que los resultados de este trabajo ofrezcan una solución terapéutica funcional, accesible y replicable, que responda a las necesidades reales del entorno guatemalteco y contribuya al fortalecimiento de la rehabilitación infantil desde un enfoque inclusivo.

The objective of this project proposal is to design and manufacture a set of adapted therapeutic toys for children aged 1 to 5 years with neurological disorders, focused on strengthening fine motor skills. This project proposes a solution that integrates design, healthcare, and accessibility through the creation of adapted, safe, and stimulating tools. Through this intervention, it is expected not only to improve the quality of physical therapy provided in pediatric hospitals, but also to highlight the potential of design as an effective tool for contributing to the well-being and development of the community.

The methodology of this project is divided into four phases. In the first phase, research will be conducted with the support of a specialized physiotherapist in order to identify the main needs of children in the development of fine motor skills. This stage will also include a review of information and studies related to inclusive design, child body dimensions (anthropometry), and the occupational therapies commonly used in these cases.

In the second phase, the design of the toy set will be developed. Sketches, 3D models, technical drawings, and prototypes will be created to visualize the toys, taking into account factors such as safety, comfort for the child, and their usefulness within therapeutic interventions.

The third phase will focus on the manufacturing process. Simple production techniques and safe materials will be selected, ensuring that the toys can be easily used by therapeutic personnel in hospitals and healthcare centers.

Finally, in the fourth phase, pilot tests will be conducted with children during real therapy sessions under the supervision of the collaborating physiotherapist. This stage will allow observation of the children’s responses to the toys, evaluation of their effectiveness in promoting fine motor skill development, and implementation of any necessary adjustments before proposing their final use.

The expected outcome of this project is a functional, accessible, and replicable therapeutic solution that addresses the real needs of the Guatemalan context and contributes to strengthening pediatric rehabilitation through an inclusive approach.
