In the following work, a compound derived from eugenol (2-methoxy-4-(2-propenyl) phenol) was synthesized. Eugenol is a secondary metabolite, a phenylpropanoid present in various plants such as Syzygium aromaticum. It is found in a proportion of more than 80% in the essential oil of this plant and has shown strong pharmacological activity, including a potent inhibitory effect on bacterial growth by inhibiting protease, carboxylase, and amylase enzymes, as well as inducing cell lysis. Compounds derived from eugenol have shown increased antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The functional groups used for synthesis were the phenolic hydroxyl and the allylic alkene, to create compounds such as esters, ethers, epoxides, diols, among others. Nitrogen-containing derivatives have exhibited strong antibacterial activity; therefore, in this study, the synthesis of 2-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-6-methoxy-4-(prop-2-en-1-yl) phenol was carried out as a new nitrogenated derivative. The antibacterial activity of this compound was evaluated through a Kirby-Bauer assay, using ampicillin as a positive control and the solvent as a negative control. The inhibition zones were determined for E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, and B. subtilis. Strong inhibitory activity was observed against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, suggesting the possible use of the compound as an antiseptic.eng
