| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | In Guatemala, inadequate infrastructure and budget constraints in the public health system pose significant challenges, impacting millions of citizens. These deficiencies have serious consequences for medical care. The Ostomy Association of Guatemala, ASOGUA, is an organization dedicated to supporting ostomy patients throughout the country. Currently, ASOGUA has only one active member, who personally manages all patient follow-ups. Due to limited staff and resources, it is not possible to support as many patients as desired. Additionally, patients often live in remote areas, complicating communication and follow-up while also increasing costs due to travel requirements. Establishing a support channel to provide patients with access to information, self-monitoring, updates on association activities, and a means to communicate with ASOGUA would ease the association’s workload. In this project, the first version of an easy-to-use native Android application was developed, aimed at providing support to ostomy patients through learning tools and a news portal. The interface sketches were designed using the Balsamiq tool. The application was created in Android Studio and divided into two modules: the learning module and the news module. The application was programmed using the Kotlin language. The learning module was developed by integrating YouTube videos, which serve as educational lessons on various topics related to ostomies. For the news module, a portal was developed to display relevant announcements from the association. Additionally, a publishing system was implemented through an .xlsx file, which simplifies the process of uploading news quickly and easily. The involvement of ASOGUA members was crucial, both to gather information on the needs of ostomy patients and to receive feedback once the application was completed. | eng |
