| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this graduation project is to design, implement, and evaluate a pedagogical intervention model aimed at strengthening executive functions in adolescents enrolled in a homeschooling program. The intervention was carried out at the Muxbal Homeschooling Study Center, located in Santa Catarina Pinula, Guatemala, where the need to support students in developing skills that promote autonomy, self-regulation, and independent learning was identified. The eleven executive functions—attention, working memory, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, task initiation, time management, goal-directed persistence, organization, planning, emotional self-regulation, and metacognition—are essential cognitive processes for the comprehensive development of adolescents. Strengthening these functions is particularly important during this stage of life, which is characterized by cognitive and emotional changes that influence decision-making, problem-solving, and the ability to remain focused and organized. Within the homeschooling context, the diversity of learning paces and styles highlighted the need for clear pedagogical strategies to foster concentration, organization, perseverance, and self-reflection. Based on this need, an intervention model was designed using progressive activities and cognitive scaffolding tailored to the characteristics of each student. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach that integrated self-assessments, checklists, tutor observations, and a reflective journal to identify the main areas requiring improvement. Based on these findings, the guide Manual for Absent-Minded Minds: No More Distractions was developed to structure and support the implementation of the intervention program. | eng |
